The Visionaries Behind the Brands
Doug & JanaVan Polen
For over two decades, Doug and Jana Van Polen have been a driving force behind some of the Midwest's most innovative professional experiences. Their entrepreneurial journey began in 2000 with the founding of Serenity Couture. Since then, they have built a multi-state legacy, owning and operating salons and educational institutes across Iowa and Minnesota to mentor generations of professionals.
Their hands-on background spans salon ownership, beauty education, and executive business leadership, giving them a deeply practical, operator-informed perspective. But their true secret to sustained success is simple: they find exceptional people, cultivate their talents, and provide the ultimate platform for them to shine. Doug and Jana believe that their role as founders is to build the stage, but the glory always belongs to the team that brings the vision to life.
From day one, their mission has been to raise the standard for guest experiences. This relentless drive recently culminated in the opening of a state-of-the-art flagship space inside The Atlas Building in West Des Moines. Partnering with Director of Beverage & Operations Henry Avila, they are launching The Atlas Room — a hidden cocktail lounge concealed behind a secret door inside the new Serenity Couture.
Doug and Jana have never viewed their anniversaries or milestones as a finish line. Inspired by the courage to build something meaningful in an industry that continues to evolve, they also recently expanded their reach by launching Bellamonte Professional, a U.S. beauty distributor.
Today, as the leaders of V.P. Hospitality Group, Doug and Jana continue to cultivate talent and build spaces designed for long-term success. Their story proves that even after a quarter-century of pioneering innovation, they are just getting started.
